What to do after school: Creative DIY's for kids
Friday, August 21, 2020
When children go back to school it’s always something you have to get used to, because what do you do after such a day at school? There is no need to get bored, because spare time can be filled with all kinds of activities in and around the house. That's how we keep that holiday feeling in mind. Creativity in the open air is a great relaxation after a busy school day.
If your into smearing with paint
Painting with children is always a feast. They have probably already discovered a lot of surfaces to paint on, but it is so much fun to make a work of art that can last longer. Design your own nesting box or garden dwarf, for example.
Painting can of course be done with a brush, but for another (splashing) effect or pattern it is best to use a sponge or toothbrush. Would you paint a bee house? Then try painting with yellow paint on bubble wrap, to stamp a nice honeycomb. Also, it is very easy to make stamps with the structure of fruit and vegetables, such as half a potato.
Handcrafts
If your kid isn’t Picasso, but more of a biologist, a handy carpenter or a chef? There are a lot of things children can do themselves. They immediately see how something is made and how the result contributes to attracting insects and animals to the garden for example. Give the animals in the garden a homemade cottage or homemade bird food such as a fat ball, stuffed pine cone or peanut chain.
And what if the picked flowers, from the walk with grandpa and grandma must absolutely be preserved to show at home? Dry them together! This way you can preserve them longer or can also make a nice birthday card out of the dry flowers afterwards, for example. Want to be creative with the dried flowers?
