The world's greenest charcoal - Do you also choose sustainability?
Friday, June 25, 2021
A healthy world is the foundation of a stable society. The demand for sustainable products is therefore increasing. Charcoal is one of our many products that is produced in a sustainable way. In this way, everyone contributes in his or her own way to a better environment. Are you already anticipating the increasing demand for green products?
From tree to barbecue
Esschert Design's charcoal is produced in Namibia. Many farmers there make clever use of the drought that they have to deal with in the summer. They therefore choose to also produce charcoal in the summer months.
For our Fancy Flames charcoal we only use thorny bushes and "invasive" tree species. By burning exactly these shrubs and trees and making charcoal from them, a part of the ecosystem is restored. These tree species otherwise absorb the scarce groundwater and thus disturb the natural balance of the land.
The charcoal that your customer puts on the barbecue or in the stove in the summer has come a long but “green” way. In Europe, there is an increasing demand for FSC®-certified charcoal from Namibia.
Some examples for the requirements of the FSC® label:
- There is an extensive control of the type of tree that is cut.
- The harvested area must be cleared as soon as possible.
- The charcoal must have been processed correctly. In addition, proof must be provided that the workers work and live in decent conditions.
Esschert Design has had an official FSC® certificate since 2006 (Licence code: FSC-C008141), for now some 400 products made of wood and paper for which we are re-tested every year. Want to know more about the how and what of our FSC®-certified products? Read it here.
For the coming summer months, the charcoal and briquettes can not be missing from your assortment, we currently have them in plentiful supply.
