Sneak Peek Wednesday: Drying flowers in the microwave (DIY)
Wednesday, November 4, 2020
Normally we exhibit our products at trade fairs. Because the traditional fairs are hardly or not organized at the moment, we come up with an alternative: Sneak Peek Wednesday. Every Sneak Peek Wednesday we try to surprise you with a new product or a tip of the veil from the spring and summer collection of 2021.*
In this Sneak Peek Wednesday we’ll show you a new product that makes life a little easier: the flower and herb press for microwave. Drying flowers and herbs in the traditional way can take up to three weeks. The terracotta press for microwave use, gets the job done within a few minutes. Another advantage is that the colors are better preserved during drying.
Content DIY kit
- Terracotta tiles (2x)
- Felt pads (2x)
- Silicone straps (3x)
1. Pick
We make drying flowers very easy, but of course the flowers must be picked first. Collect the flowers in a convenient flower and herb basket. The basket has a wide handle for easy carrying on the arm, wich makes picking flowers with two arms possible. Also flowers with long stems (which you hang to dry) cannot kink in this basket.
Tip: You’ll find the most beautiful field bouquets in a flower picking garden. A different bouquet every season.
2. Choose and stack your flowers
The set consists of two felt pads and terracotta tiles. Build these op in layers. Start with the terracotta tile and place a pad on it. On top of this you put the flowers to dry, followed by the other pad. On top you put the other terracotta tile. Slide the silicone straps around the press, so it's tightly closed.
3.2.1. PING - Ready to use out of the microwave
Put the press in the microwave and heat it for one to two minutes. Note: how long the flowers need to dry depends on the strength (Watt) of the microwave and the size and thickness of the flowers. Do not immediately place the flowers in the microwave for too long.
It is possible that the flowers leave stains on the used pads. Do not worry, this does not effect the quality.
Please note: The terracotta tiles become hot during heating. Use oven gloves, for example, or wait until the press has cooled down.
