The use of bamboo as a sustainable raw material has increased in popularity tremendously recently. Why is that? The grass grows extremely fast, it doesn't need much water to grow, it absorbs a lot of CO2 and it is the perfect replacement for plastic. However, last week it turned out that bamboo in combination with melamine plastic is harmful to the human health, according to research by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA).

All our sustainable and biodegradable tableware (including our bamboo straws) is produced from 100% natural material, is completely compostable and is therefore safe to use. Bamboo straws

Our bamboo straws are made of pure bamboo and are therefore safe and durable in use. The included stainless steel brush allows you to clean the straws, making them easy to take along for a second or third time picnicking in the park for example!

Palm leaf plates

The eco-friendly palm leaf plates, are a treat to eat from because of their unique look. The disposable plates are made from the fallen leaves of the Arecapalm. These leaves fall from the palm several times a year and then grow back on their own. The palm leaf plates are also useful for both cold and hot dishes. And after the meal, they can just go with the vegetable fruit and garden waste because they are 100% organic and compostable.

Cutlery from FSC® wood

Esschert Design has had an official FSC® certificate since 2006, for which we are tested every year. Almost 400 products made of wood and paper have an FSC certification. Paper cups, straws and napkins

The paper cups, straws, napkins, placemats and tablecloths from our Secrets du Potager collection are also completely biodegradable and produced from a natural material. To make the cups suitable for hot drinks such as coffee and tea, there is a layer of (100% natural) PLA on the cardboard, but they remained compostable! The napkins, placemats and tablecloths are even made of chlorine-free FSC® paper and are printed with a super cute fern print of water-based ink!

World Recycling Day

Sustainability is a trending topic around the world and is even Esschert Design's motto. We stand for making and offering (more and more) sustainable products. Our products are for example..
