Monday, May 16, 2022
Food waste, kitchen garbage, fruit and vegetable waste, and garden waste are all examples of organic waste.
Did you know that this organic waste may be used to generate your own compost? You can reuse rubbish while also receiving something valuable in return. With our brand new worm composter from the autumn/winter 2022 catalogue, you can manufacture your own compost. We're pretty excited about it, so let us show you a little more!
What is compost?
Vegetable leftovers, such as vegetables, fruit wrappers, leaves, and prunings, are used to make compost, which is a soil improver. It's an excellent fertilising product. Compost can be applied right before sowing. It creates a ready-to-use ecosystem that supports and complements soil biology. Taping mature compost also benefits the soil's pH as well as the air and water balance.
The best thing is that, owing to our worm composter, you can now manufacture it yourself.
Making your own compost has numerous advantages
Composting your own waste saves both time and money. Because you handle organic waste from your home on-site, the cycle is kept short. It also produces compost, which is a useful end product.
Composting with a worm composter provides a number of advantages over other methods. The compost is substantially more nutrient-dense than ordinary compost. Making compost is considerably quicker, because you get worm tea in addition to compost. This liquid is beneficial to your plants' health. The worm composter is simple to maintain and takes minimal time. The garbage will be transformed into compost in about a month, which you can use right away in your garden. It's critical that the composter has a sufficient number of worms.
How does the worm composter work?
We recommend placing the worm hotel outside in a sheltered area when you first start using it. Fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, tea bags, and eggshells are all favourites of worms, but broken bits, cardboard, straw, and leaves can also be added to the worm hostel. The composter's worms can be fed on a daily basis.
We demonstrate how the composter works in the example below. To open the PDF, simply click on the image.
The worms in the composter
The earthworms not only break down the waste, but they also multiply in the worm hotel, especially in spring and autumn. This implies that after three months, you can release the first earthworms into the garden and reap the benefits of their presence. Every three months or so, the population of earthworms doubles. However, you must always have enough worms in the worm composter in order to compost.
Educational and sustainable
The worm composter is a fun method for kids to learn about worms and how organic waste breaks down. Did you aware that worms have no smell? They don't even make a sound. Children enjoy feeding leftover cooking debris to the worms.
There are two versions of the Worm House. Brown wood and white wood. The worm composter measurements are 40,5x38,5x76 cm.
