Monday, November 30, 2020
Garden birds spend much time searching for food either for their chicks in spring, or to gain some weight before the cold winter. As we are heading towards December, insects, seeds and other nutritious food become scarce. This is why our singing neighbors benefit from our support, especially now! But what is the right food to offer them? Read on and discover tips to make a variety of garden birds happy in your backyard!
Did you know that birds can lose up to 10% of their body weight on a freezing winter night? This is why it is often vital for them to serve the right food with the needed nutrients. For this end, we classified four types of bird food which are always welcome as extra source of energy these times.
- Suet balls/blocks (fat)
It is important to offer birds fat during winter as it helps them maintain their body temperature. Suet balls or blocks support birds with the needed amount of fat! But fat lovers, like Blue or Great Tits will definitely love our peanut butter varieties , which contain loads of fat, too. - Dried insects
As you can also read on on our inspiration page: ‘Which bird eats what’, most garden birds love insects. Not to mention that bugs and worms provide birds with protein, fat and other important nutrients. As insects are difficult to find during the cold days, birds greatly take the benefit of your help! Place out dried insects for birds easily, and they will visit you frequently! - Dried fruits
Sparrows, robins and other types of birds love fruit. Since it is difficult to find fresh fruit during the winter months, dried fruit is always welcome as a supplement for birds! You can also hang suet balls on the trees which contain dried fruits, as they combine this delicacy with other inevitable nutrients. - Winter seed mixes
Our winter seed mixes are developed especially for the cold days, offering an appropriate mixture of nutrients. They contain wheat, sorghum, millet, sunflower seed field peas and other delicacy. Birds will love it!
Last but not least, find the right bird feeder and make life easier for birds! We’ve got some feeders which also decorate the garden during the cold winter days. Get inspired by our Best for Birds collection.
Offer shelter for a ‘warm up’
Nesting boxes are welcome in every season. We often see birds using these boxes during spring, however they always benefit from a place to hide or retreat. Thus, applying nesting boxes in the garden always pays off and will contribute to a better garden wildlife.
You will definitely find your style in our wide range, yet this time we would like to introduce the traditional nesting bottles. Did you know that these bottles have been used since the 16thcentury? In fact, our articles are designed according to those early models which adds an authentic look to them. They are a perfect solution to restore the bird population in an area. That’s because it is not only a place to hide, but also a good place to nest. Our nesting pots are hand casted and supplied with a landing stick to make it easy for birds to enter. These bottles will definitely create atmosphere both for birds and you!
