Get warm through winter, all about firewood & fireplaces
Tuesday, October 20, 2020
Autumn is currently in full swing and that means that King Winter is approaching as well. In this crazy period of time, it seems like we will spend more time indoors during the winter months as well. The more reason to provide extra warmth and conviviality.
How? Ofcourse with a fireplace. Almost everyone can light a fireplace, but not everyone knows that the type of wood can make a big difference.
Enjoy firewood to the max
When selling firewood, it is important to know your customers wish list and usage . Is the burning time more important or the release of heat?
There is an easy prompt if it comes to burn time: the harder the type of wood, the longer the burn time. All our firewood is kiln dried. This wood burns longer than air dried wood, because it is not exposed to weather influences. This prevents too much oxygen from getting into the wood and ensures the wood burns longer in the chimney.
We’ve listed the best usable firewoods:
Beech wood
Features: quiet flame, few sparks
Advantages: gives a good warmth, burns long and good flame height
Disadvantages: a bit less easy to light
Birch wood
Features: high, blue flame
Advantages: Pleasant fragrance, very easy to light, good flame height and warmth
Disadvantages: a little less burn time
Oak wood
Features: Small and crackling flames
Advantages: Gives a good warmth, very long burn time and has a somewhat smaller flame height
Disadvantages: a bit less easy to light
Alder wood
Features: High and vivid flame play
Advantages: easy to light and a good flame height
Disadvantages: gives off less warmth and burns less long
Mixed firewood
Properties: a mix of oak, beech, birch and alder wood. Together they provide a varied flame play.
Mixed firewood combine the properties of the different types of wood. It is pretty easy to light, has a average burn time and flame height.
All of these types of wood are suitable for fireplaces, terrace heaters and fire bowls.
FSC® wood
All our firewood has an fsc label. Sustainable wood, extracted in a sustainable way. Want to know more about FSC®? Read all about it in our blog.
Handy fire tools
To light a fire in the fire place or outside on the terrace, fire tools are essential. Starting a fire, for example, is a lot easier with these decorative fire starters or this handy fat wood.
Ready to light up your fire? This nostalgic bellows lends you a helping hand. The narrow metal nozzle directs extra oxygen towards the centre of the fire causing the flames to surge.
When you enjoy a cozy fire outside, you can let the ashes whirl around. By inside use we prefer to keep it tidy. With the right accessories that’s a piece of cake.
