Coconut: multifunctional and 100% organic
Thursday, September 2, 2021
September 2 is World Coconut Day. Is coconut so special that it gets its own day? Absolutely! The coconut is one of the most multifunctional fruits (not a nut!) in the world. Everything, from the outer shell to the coconut water in the core can be used. Esschert Design has many products made from 100% coconut fibre, from doormats to inlays for hanging plants. Read along with this ode to the coconut.
Coconut offers protection: the fibres from the bark form a barrier and protect against external influences (weather, temperature). As we said in a previous blog: not only trees and bushes benefit from the coconut, birds also like to use the fibres to make a nest.
The coconut fibres are rough enough to make brushes out of. They can be used to clean flower pots, wipe your boots and even brush your vegetables. And with a coconut filled with bird food in your garden, you help the birds in the winter.
The coir's roughness also makes it an ideal material for doormats. This year, we have dedicated an entire Sneak Peek blog to the new coir doormats in the collection.
Coconut oil
Esschert Design also has a number of products containing coconut oil: the Secrets du Potager collection for example now has reusable beeswax wraps (with coconut oil), which is a good alternative to plastic.
And the pumice garden soap, garden soaps in a glass jar and soap on a rope all contain coconut oil, which hydrates and nourishes the hands.
