A butterfly-friendly garden
Thursday, March 3, 2022
Butterflies are fantastic to watch. They're the kind of insects that we generally don't find scary or annoying, but rather beautiful. They are often colourful with beautiful wings. Not surprisingly, they are a welcome guest in the garden. Would you like to enjoy butterflies in the garden more often? With these tips, you can make your garden even more friendly to these beautiful, colourful insects.
Enjoy butterflies in the garden
To attract butterflies to the garden, it is important that water is available and that it is offered to the butterflies in the right way. Butterflies are not attracted to deep water. Offer the water in our handy bee and butterfly drinking bowl filled with stones. The butterflies can easily land on the stones and drink the water from there. The drinking dish has a yellow colour with two decorative butterflies, which makes the butterflies more likely to come to the bath. The bowl also has a sloping side, so they can easily climb out. It is wise not to place the bath too close to a bird feeder or bird bath. If there are many birds around, this can be a deterrent.

Lots of colourful flowers and plants
Not all butterflies love the same flowers. Butterflies get their nectar from a flower, but every butterfly has a different favourite. To attract as many different beauties to your garden as possible, it is advisable to go for a nice mix of various flowers with lots of colour. Use our butterfly-attracting flower mixture for this. This will give butterflies a better chance of survival and you will attract more butterflies to your garden. You can already start sowing and growing in a greenhouse or seed pot. From May onwards it is time to sow in the ground.
An own little house
Butterflies love the sun! They are cold-blooded and love to stay in the warmth. When the weather is bad, butterflies look for a place to hide and spend the night. The first butterflies are seen in the garden in March and April, but most butterflies are seen in July. That's when a lot of butterflies are looking for a safe haven. Our butterfly house is a nice haven for butterflies. They have the space to sit nice and warm and can also spend the night here. The butterfly house is made from 100% FSC® wood. Thanks to the door on the side, you can easily open the box and fill it with twigs. This also makes cleaning very easy.
